Dawn began painting in Wisconsin, but really fell in love with the beauty of the American Southwest. She is active in plein air groups and when she is not painting in her studio in Flagstaff, she can be found outdoors with her painting gear and backpack, capturing first-hand the beauty of the desert, the mountains and wildflowers. She believes that plein air painting uniquely captures the depth and definition of the landscape, qualities that can be lost when working from photographs alone.
Dawn’s paintings often draw comments regarding the rich colors, light within the shadows, and the feeling that one could just walk right into the painting. “When one of my paintings speaks to someone, I want them to feel there is an adventure within the canvas. I want the viewer to feel transported into the landscape”.
Dawn’s work has received numerous awards and is a member of Women Artists of the West, Arizona Plein Air Painters (founding member) and Plein Air Artists of Northern Arizona. She is currently offering painting lessons. Dawn’s work is on display in galleries in Flagstaff, Sedona and Jerome.
